mustache's

I'm not sure why fake mustache's are so popular right now. I found some at the store and had visions of my boys in them. We had fun!

first day of school

The big boys both had their first day of school this week. Judah is going Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings and Cohen is going Tuesday and Thursday mornings.

We're also doing homeschooling this year. We need to make a decision about what we're going to do for Judah for Kindergarten next year and this is my trial run of homeschooling to see how it works for us. My goal has been an hour in the morning with whoever is not at school and then an hour in the afternoon with both of them. Some days have been easier than others as we get into a routine of it. And I really am just figuring it out as I go, trying to be organized with it but also flexible while we figure out what their strengths and weaknesses are.

summertime

My poor poor neglected blog.
Just because there hasn't been any posts don't be fooled into thinking we haven't been busy having an awesome summer. There's been train rides (yes more than one), chicken pox, an overnight in a caboose, a few nights/days by a pool, and lots of lazy fun beach/park times.

July Experiment

Justin reminded me that I hadn't posted what I'm doing for my July experiment.

This month is use up the food in the house month. Not a super exciting experiment but it has been a good one. My one exception is the fruit stand. I have been going once a week and buying our produce for the week and I've continued doing that this month. We have typically been spending $20 a week there. And sometime I hit the jackpot and they have a $3 box. My favorite. :)

(One of the boys ate part of the apple before I could get a picture so that's why there's a half eaten apple in the box!)
I love the challenge of trying to make something out of what's in the box. And whatever isn't used goes to the chickens so I definitely feel like it's worth the $3 for us.

I have also bought milk a few times. We are doing just fine without going to the store. And I hope to continue this to some degree after the month is over. Buying produce from the fruit stand and we buy our meat at Stewarts, I really don't need that much from the store. Or I should say I shouldn't need that much from the store, but the grocery store is some kind of trap because you always come out with more than you needed! I've been wanting to switch over to ordering from Azure Standard for awhile now and I guess that is kind of my end goal but haven't been quite ready to take that step yet.

summer adventures - 1

Last summer we had lots of fun summer outings. I am thinking this year we might be sticking a bit closer to home. The boys are really loving our backyard and playing at the beaches around us. But we will still be doing some adventures, it just wouldn't be summer without adventures!

So for our first adventure we headed down to the Chehalis/Centralia area. First stop was the outlet mall, found a few new things for the boys. Then we went to The Olympic Club for lunch and a movie. The movie was Hoodwinked Too. I wouldn't recommend the movie unless you want your kids to say things like "I can taste my own butt". Fantastic.

Then we walked to the cupcake store and took some cupcakes to the train station to watch trains. Cupcakes and Trains, perfect.

Next we took some pinwheels to my great-grandparents graves.

I let one of the boys pee on a tree and we changed the boys into their swim clothes in the cemetery. That felt a little...wrong?

Then it was off to the spray park.
