6 months

Happy 6 month birthday to Cohen!

I can't believe how fast the past 6 months have gone. It really feels like he was just born yesterday!

weekend part 2

I had been looking forward to beach retreat for quite awhile. I was excited to try out our trailer and Judah was spending the weekend with my mom which meant I only had Cohen, which meant I wouldn't have to be chasing anyone around and worrying about them falling into the fire. It was going to be a semi-relaxing weekend for me. Then Judah got croup. (see other post) I think I spent the whole retreat in a mental state of chaos. I felt like a bad mom for leaving Judah and kept thinking I needed to go home. But Judah was doing just fine with my mom. I can't even count how many conversations Justin and I had that I told him I was going home and then didn't go. I was hoping to connect with beauty school dropout in Portland but in the chaos before I left I didn't get to contact her and therefore felt like I snubbed her. So I just want to say that I am so sorry and I was hoping we could meet at the Saturday market. Totally my bad for not getting in touch with you. Between feeling bad about that and then the mommy guilt of leaving Judah, I think I had a stomach ache the entire retreat.

It was just a weird retreat for me. I spent most of the time wishing I was with Judah, but I know if I had been home I would have been wishing I was at the retreat with Justin. I would have been torn either way. I had made a commitment to being at the retreat and would have felt really bad if I had backed out on that. I know Justin would have understood (obviously) but I also know he was counting on me for things like transporting people and helping with the food.

I am really glad I went. I love our trailer. We didn't spent much time in it besides sleeping, but I can already say with confidence that I love it. I enjoyed the time I got to spend with the youth and I felt like I got to spend some good one on one time with Cohen. I kind of wish I had stayed for the last night, but I really missed Judah.
It feels good to be home.

weekend part 1

I had a long story of this typed out, but didn't think anyone would read it. :) So here's the short version.

After a sleepless night, on friday morning Judah woke up having a hard time breathing.
This is scary. I hope none of you ever have your kids do this.
We went to the ER.
He has croup.
They gave him a breathing treatment, steroids, and had us sit with a humidifier by his nose for a hour.
It helped.
He was a REALLY good boy.
We took lovey, larry, and his blanket (ah-ma is what he calls it!) and it made everything okay.
We came home.
He still has croup. But it is better, more like a cold now.
He was fine all day. Couldn't decide if I should still go on the retreat.
So torn. Justin wants me to go, but Judah is sick, but Justin needs my help...
Decide to go for one night and see how Judah does. (we were planning on leaving him with my mom anyway and taking Cohen with us)
Major stressing out occurs. Feeling like a bad mom for leaving Judah.
Left the house in a major rush. (crowder actually got locked inside. oops.)
Judah sleeps okay at my moms.
He does fine the next day so I stay another night.
I miss my boy.
I come home one night early.
Croup sucks.

photos

Our first "harvest" from our garden! And it's a heirloom, for all of you that thought I was crazy...see it's edible! :)

He doesn't really know how to sit, but somehow miraculously balanced for some pictures! I love Judah in the background. He is so busy these days there are only action shots of him! And the drool is pretty classy too!

success

We have been working on sleep training with Cohen for the past few weeks. He had been sleeping with us for the past few months. With Justin in Honduras and the craziness when he got back, Cohen somehow made it into our bed and never made it out. We decided it was time and knew he would have to do some "cry it out" to get him into his own bed. We started with just letting him cry it out for the initial falling asleep at bedtime. Then when he would wake up in the night we would bring him into bed. It is such a frustrating process. Last night he fell asleep in his crib without any fussing and then woke up around 12 and fussed for awhile and put himself back to sleep. We didn't hear another peep from him until he woke up at 8:00. It was great.

dirt is fun

Judah loves being outside. He especially loves the dirt.
Judah and Maddie had fun playing the other night. (i'm pretty sure you guys have put pictures of her up on your blog, but let me know if you want me to take it down.)

A full shot of his dirtiness.

He has looked like this for the past 3 days. The bathtub is caked in dirt after his bath. Having boys is fun. I can't wait until Cohen is running around out there too, but for now he is contained!

walkable

This is a interesting website that calculates how "walkable" your neighborhood is. We got a 6 out of 100. No surprise really. I did find out that it is 2 miles to anytime fitness, maybe when I get in shape I can run there and then workout. That would be motivation. :)

off to the races

We went to the horse races for our annual mothers day outing. We both had $20 to bet with and I came back with $15. I won $12 one race and $10 another race, plus a few little amounts. It was fun.
I posted some pictures on my flickr.
Justin has been trying to get me to use flickr for awhile, so I'm giving it a try.
This is one of my favorites, be sure to follow the link to check out the rest.

un-natural medicine

Today I have a really sore throat. I don't usually take over the counter medicine because it just treats the symptoms not the actual problem like antibiotics (or something like that) would. We don't even have any medicine in our house besides baby tylonol (for teething). But today Justin convinced me to take something, so off to the store I went. I honestly didn't even know where to start, so I headed to the vitamin aisle in the natural foods section. I bought some tea and some of that vitamin c drink stuff, it's really popular now so you probably know what I'm talking about. Then I got overwhelmed with the aisle and did the rest of my shopping. Before I left I decided to check out the normal medicine section. Everything I picked up had either artificial dyes or aspartame in it, both of which I try to avoid in our house. I don't know why they feel the need to dye the medicine bright colors that are obviously not natural. Dye the bottle a color if you really feel the need to conceal the color of the medicine. And aspartame...honestly? It's like one tablespoon worth of medicine that you take, I don't need it to taste like candy. I grabbed some ricola cough drops and left.

I'm not sure if any of the things I bought are going to make me feel any better. I think I read that honey is good for either sore throats or coughs, so I'm going to research that. But I just had to share about my search for medicine.

Oh, and please don't tell me if baby tylonol has either of those ingredients. I'm not ready to part with that.

way too many pictures

Heres a bunch of pictures, some of you may or may not care about.
Yesterday we helped my mom move into her new house. Cute huh? The weird black mark is where I quickly photoshopped her house number out. The 2nd picture is the shed, not her house.

Today we went down to the children's festival. Judah finally got to touch a fire truck!

You can see the smokey the bear button he colored in this picture.

He got a fishing pole balloon.

We had fun too.

I have more to say about our time, but I'm holding Cohen, trying to get him to sleep. One handed typing is getting frustrating, so I guess I am done for now.

you've been warned

Don't fall asleep around me or you might end up with pictures of you in these glasses!

clothing swap

It is planned.

Saturday, May 17th. 10(a.m)-12 in C3, come around 9:30 to put your clothes in the appropriate spot then have some snacks and hang out until the "swap" officially begins at 10. Invite all the girls (aka ladies, women, whatever you want to call them) that you know. The swap will include womens clothes and children's clothes of both genders. I was going to have a men's section, but thought we would stick with just womens for now, if this is a success maybe it will become a tradition and we can include men's next time. You must bring at least one article of clothing to contribute. Any leftovers will be donated.

The more people that come the more successful it will be, so please spread the word. This is not just a youth event, although it is being "advertised" to them, this is for any girls, any age, it's not even a "church" event. So please please please invite people! :)

I do need some people to come around 8 a.m. to help set up. I'll buy you coffee if you help me. I'm not above bribing. :) I know some people have already told me they would help, but it is a blur to me of who said that...so if you've told me you will help will you please tell me again so I can get organized. :) Thanks.
