I've decided that 2009 is going to be our "year of homemade gifts". Everything we give as a gift birthdays, new babies, weddings, etc will all be something homemade. I think it will be a fun chance to get creative and will also help us to be less "consumer". I always appreciate and love homemade gifts and I hope everyone near and dear to us does too because you're going to be receiving some. :)
My sewing isn't that great but I'm working on it and I've found a bunch of other ideas that don't involve sewing, so this should be fun and interesting. I've already had a lot of fun brainstorming ideas for people. Justin's birthday is up first but I already bought his gift, maybe I'll have to figure out something homemade to go along with it.
I know a lot of people give homemade gifts, but does anyone else do all homemade gifts?

Yes, all our gifts to others are homemade. We make them throughout the year and put together in "Farm Packs" as our families call them. People love and really appreciate homemade gifts. Some examples that we give are soap, shower gel and bubble bath with crochet washrags wrapped around them, home roasted coffee, lavender rice bags, jams and jellies, chocolate sauce, log candle holders, lavender scrub, sugar and salt scrubs. These are all easy to make, fun to make labels for, and exciting to give because they won't get any duplicates. Also, being consumable gifts, you can give them again for birthdays.
We don't do 100% homemade maybe we will try to do more of that. a lot of Nolan's gifts are pre owned that I get at resale shops or such.
I use to make candles soy and paraffin. I have all my molds,oils for smell and colors. Maybe I should get back into the habbit of it.
I was thinking of making some lip balms for gifts also.

Oh this year we made sweet and spicy nuts for friends gifts. super easy yummy
I'd LOVE to do ALL homemade gifts!! But, unfortunatly, I have little foresight and am not much a plan-aheader (most of the time).
Homemade is my favorite!
i've been doing homemade gifts for years now. i love it, people who know us prefer it and it is just fun! unique, creative, specialized for the receiver, etc. :) lots of work though. we throw in a "purchased" gift on the occasion that the receiver wants something specific, but it is usually coupled with a homemade something. i stick pretty close to sewing gifts though. there's a whole other expanded "homemade" world that i haven't even delved into. one day maybe...for now, my sewing keeps me more than busy. :) glad to see you're going to try this out!
For Christmas I tend to make at least 1/2 the gifts we give, there have been some years that I get more done then others. I always try and come up with a game plan of what I want to make and then do them slowly if I can. One year I did gift baskets with 3 items that I canned, and I've made scarfs, purses, this year I made the graditude wraps, for one of my cousins though I bought a shirt and then attached a horse decal onto it because she love horses. I love making them because then its something I know they won't have and they at least I know I put time into the gift. Last year one of my cousins made the girl a dress and it is her most loved one.

I love to make gifts too! The possibilites are endless...and I feel like you can duplicate things with ease and people don't mind. Like if I give a little girl a tutu, and then the next holiday do the same thing in a different color...not that I run out of ideas like that. Mixes are good for large quantities of people. I here declare to never roast large quantities of coffee in a popcorn popper again. But I'll for sure roast as a gift here and there. Felt! So much to do with felt! And some no-sew projects too! One year I made everyone fleece socks, another I crocheted hats, another I made cookie mixes and towel aprons, and some years it's just sweet bread.
