my family did this EVERY year for xmas eve growing up. the "jesus" cake and candles, singing happy birthday, the nativity story read aloud. we did the whole santa thing too. and i know everyone seems to be against it around here, but there is something to say for instilling creativity in little ones, making random traditions "magical" etc. nowadays tv, video games, cell phones, technology in general take care of all the imaginative creative juices/time...it's an interesting topic that's for sure. i definitely don't feel that my "faith" was challenged/crushed by the realization that santa wasn't real. probably due to celebrating jesus first (we never sang to santa) :)
