frustrating

I am trying to make the best decisions for our family in terms of what we eat, what I use to clean our house, etc. I think I am doing a pretty good job. We don't eat processed foods or fast food. I make as much from scratch as possible. I make our cleaning products along with our laundry detergent and dishwasher detergent. I don't want chemicals in our house because I don't think anyone really knows what the risks are. I am learning that just because something is on the shelf to buy doesn't mean that it is safe. I am trying to phase out our use of the microwave. I found some really disturbing studies on its effects. I will try to find those again and link to them. We haven't yet gotten rid of it, but we are mostly hanging onto it out of convenience. We could definitely live without it.

So, I get to a place where I am comfortable with what we are using. I am saving us money and I feel like Judah is not exposed to harmful things. But then I see a video like this:

article and video here

The video is a lot easier to understand than the article. There should be a tab at the top to click to the video.

I just get frustrated when I hear stuff like this. The kids didn't have high levels of chemicals in their systems from things like cleaning products, the food they are eating... the things that I would expect to be harmful to them. Instead it is things like the pans their food is cooked in, mattresses, couches, the carpet. The list goes on. These are everyday things that I just don't know how to avoid.

The government spends so much money researching the cure of diseases, but I think we really need to look at the causes of them. The way our society puts all of these harmful things into their bodies, whether they are aware of it or not, must have long term consequences. Why aren't people making the connection?

I'm not going to make my kids walk around in a bubble. And I'm not a extreme "environmentalist" or whatever category this would fall under. I want to set my kids (along with Justin and I) up for the best chance at success. I want to avoid health problems and take care of our bodies in the best possible ways. Then I see something like that video and I wonder what is the point? Is there anyway in our country in 2007 to live the life that I want to? If it isn't the food we eat then its the couch we sit on, or the lead in the toys, or the pollution from cars.

Is their any point in trying? We're all going to die of something in the end.

I didn't know you guys were only eating non processed foods. Kinda funny...Brad and I were just talking this weekend about trying to go that route. We were even thinking about buying tomatoes(yuck) and making our own marinara/spaghetti sauce....but to your main point, yes..something is going to ultimately kill us. It is frusterating when we try to do the best we can(I am not doing the best by far right now) and the list just keeps getting bigger and bigger of what is bad for us.

i think to an extent there is a reason for trying...i think so many people have aches and pains, that they just "live with". but if they only knew. so many people don't think about the things you are thinking about, they just buy off the shelf and assume it will be safe. think about how many harmful things people do to there body. yet there are subtle things one can do, such as making your cleaning products, not using a microwave, ect. if you are able to keep your body healthy while on this earth...why not? why not live a healthier pain free life? i am inspired by you, and all you do to keep judah and your family healthy!

i would love to start making my own cleaning supplies...that is such a good idea! i don't think my room mate now would go for that, but i will run it by him. but i will for sure i will what i move out!

i HATE microwaves...my dad got me into the habit of heating things up in the oven (like my leftovers) now i am just so used to it, plus it makes things taste better!

i am feeling pretty inspired to find all organic materials...(and cheap ones)...i will let you know if i find anything good...

(this got long fast...sorry)

that kid Rowen is sooo lucky!!!
seriously, with that amount of PBDes/FLAME RETARDANT in his body, he's setting himself up to become the next "Human Torch"...

i wonder what mutant super power we can help Judah develop? and just think, if we start now with Cohen... OH! the possibilities are endless...

Thundercats... HO!

Justin... BEST. COMMENT. EVER.

I have long maintained that if only lived closer to a nuclear waste storage facility my life would have been 100x better and more interesting.

if you want to fully phase out the microwave...just break it. that is what i accidentally did to ours...and we have been healthier since.
really, once you get used to not using one at all, you don't even notice the little inconveniences of other methods. just cold-turkey it (no pun intended...).

anyways, i feel the same discouragement sometimes about what all we are exposed to through no real fault of our own...(my mom does extensive reading on this stuff...), but really, you just do the best you can, and that will make the difference. there will always be a new study telling you of the hazards of something you've used and been around your whole life...and you do the best you can.
and furthermore...i think that the Lord honors our desires to be good stewards of our bodies...and i personally think he cuts me a little slack. :) i'm sure he's protecting my health in areas where i can't be aware and protect myself.

HAHAHAHA! that last sentence was gold.

i've just stopped eating entirely. No matter what, it's probably bad for me. Sweet.
