un-natural medicine

Today I have a really sore throat. I don't usually take over the counter medicine because it just treats the symptoms not the actual problem like antibiotics (or something like that) would. We don't even have any medicine in our house besides baby tylonol (for teething). But today Justin convinced me to take something, so off to the store I went. I honestly didn't even know where to start, so I headed to the vitamin aisle in the natural foods section. I bought some tea and some of that vitamin c drink stuff, it's really popular now so you probably know what I'm talking about. Then I got overwhelmed with the aisle and did the rest of my shopping. Before I left I decided to check out the normal medicine section. Everything I picked up had either artificial dyes or aspartame in it, both of which I try to avoid in our house. I don't know why they feel the need to dye the medicine bright colors that are obviously not natural. Dye the bottle a color if you really feel the need to conceal the color of the medicine. And aspartame...honestly? It's like one tablespoon worth of medicine that you take, I don't need it to taste like candy. I grabbed some ricola cough drops and left.

I'm not sure if any of the things I bought are going to make me feel any better. I think I read that honey is good for either sore throats or coughs, so I'm going to research that. But I just had to share about my search for medicine.

Oh, and please don't tell me if baby tylonol has either of those ingredients. I'm not ready to part with that.

You could make a honey lemon tea. the honey will coat the throat and make it better. Also Brian loves throat coat tea when his is sore. The tea is made by Traditional medicinals. they also make a breath easy and gypsy cold that we like.

you can find them at freds not sure where else.

I love Tazo Zen tea when I'm sick.
And, ricola thraot drops are nice, too. most medicines are just symptom treatments. I don't like to take much medicine, though I bet we have at least 3 brands of cold medicine right now...

I would like to know what medicine you have had that tastes like candy??? :) I gag when I take cough syrup. Sooo..I probably wouldn't miss the dye. I don't like taking medicine either for a cold. When I had a sore throat I just drank hot tea.

Gargling with salt water really does work! It sounds gross, but there is something scientific as to how it works that my daughter could explain if she weren't sleeping right now. She gets sore throats often and the doctors pretty much refuse to remove tonsils these days, so in desperation, she tried and it worked. She got the scientific explanation from her teacher at school.
