rodeway inn

Justin and I went to Portland on Friday night as a getaway for our anniversary. The Rodeway Inn was recommended to us by Ryan and Shalisa. I would recommend this place to anyone. It is out by the airport, but the Max light rail system is on the other side of their parking lot. We took this into Portland and went to the Saturday market and Washington Park. Their public transportation system is amazing. We could have gotten to anyplace in the city on our one day pass. Why pay up to $200 for a room in the city instead of $50 for a room that isn't directly in the city, but has very easy access to the city. The rooms were VERY nice. (the pictures of the rooms on their website are not recently updated) The bed was very comfortable and the furnishings didn't look like your "typical" motel/hotel decor. The shower head was actually high enough that Justin could fit under it. And everything was VERY clean. When we walked in Justin said "this carpet actually feels like its been vacuumed!"
So those things alone would have made it a awesome place. But it gets better...
It is owned and ran by a foursquare church. Their profits of it go to support local mens and womens shelters. Their church meets in what used to be the conference room of the motel. They have a coffee shop that is very well done, and that is where the continental breakfast is served. They played Christian music in the lobby and coffee shop. How often do you get to check into your motel listening to Shane and Shane play?
I was impressed that it was Christian run. It was probably on of the best run motels I've ever been in. Especially for $50 a night. They have a great ministry of ministering to travelers. And they do it without putting Jesus posters in the rooms, the prayer of salvation in the shower, mandatory "prayer meetings", and other things that Christians often do when trying to minister to others.
I think it fits perfect with what we talked about at BEACH. That the new way of doing missions is by living life with people while meeting their basic needs and building relationships. This place did great at meeting the basic needs of travelers, and they met them very well.
As you can tell I am very impressed with this place. If you ever stay in Portland, you should definitely stay at the Rodeway Inn!
